7 of the 10 largest drives manufacturers worldwide are customers of HMS, using Anybus connectivity solutions to connect their drives to the variety of industrial networks.
In most drive applications, the distributed drives are located on a machine site and connected via a fieldbus or industrial Ethernet network to the central automation system. In addition to cyclic control processes, modern drives support simultaneously acyclic parameter access through the industrial network. In dependency of the performance and cycle time requirements, many different types of industrial networks are used in drive technology. The networks range from simple fieldbusses such as Modbus-RTU to motion control networks such as EtherCAT or Profinet IRT. To maximize interoperability and interchangeability between the drives of different manufacturers, most industrial networks provide specific functional specifications for drives, the so called drive profiles (i.e. Profidrive for Profibus and Profinet).
With the embedded Anybus communication modules, HMS provides ready-to-use connectivity solutions for standard drives with speed or V/f control and drives with distributed technology functions but with limited motion control requirements. The embedded Anybus modules support fast cyclic I/O data exchange (used i.e for motor current or speed control) as well as acyclic access to the drive parameters (i.e. torque or speed limits). Thanks to the well defined Anybus application software interface, the internal software of the drive can access the cyclic control data and acyclic parameter data in a standardized manner, independent of the selected industrial network.

As a compliment to the standard Anybus communication modules, which contain “only” the full communication functionality of the specific network, HMS provides specific drive profile modules, containing specific drive profile functionalities in addition to the underlying communication functions. These drive profile modules comply with the drive profiles of the network standards making it even easier for the drive manufacturers to fully comply with the syntax and meaning to the industry standards in drive technology.
